Ralph C. Gast, 83, of rural Earlville, IL passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in Mendota Community Hospital in Mendota, IL. He was born October 15, 1926 in Earlville, IL the son of Lawrence and Ruth (Johnson) Gast. He married Mildred Rosengren on May 19, 1949 in Chicago, IL. Ralph was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, the Illinois Valley Horsemen Association, Lifetime member of Mendota Elks Lodge 1212, Sandwich Moose Lodge 1016, Past director of Earlville Farmers CO-OP, Past president of the Board of Directors of the Mendota Lutheran Home, he was an avid sports fan and played on the Earlville Rangers Baseball Team. He farmed his entire life in the Earlville area, enjoyed the many trailrides and especially spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Mildred of Earlville; one Son David (Sandra) Gast of Earlville, IL; two daughters, Susan (Gussie) Werner of Hallettsville, Texas, and Mary (Todd) Wright of Doyline, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, David Janese, Shannon (Carl) Cook, Erik (Carla) Gast, Sarah (Matt) Cook, Sharon (Joe) Stone, Michael Gast, Jordan and Jimmy Wright; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Mathesius of St. Germaine, WI and Gwendolyn Gustafson, of Villa Grove, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Reinhold.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Immanuael Lutheran Church in Earlville, IL with Pastor Dorothy Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in Precinct Cemetery rural Earlville. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30th in the church until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Earlville District Library or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville. WOW! What a shock! I just talked to Ralph and Millie at Mendota hospital a few weeks ago. He looked good to me. He had a little trouble walking. Millie,Dave,Susan and Families. I'm so sorry to here about Ralph. I always enjoyed talking to him. He was a great guy! May God be with all of you at this time. God bless all of you!

Millie, Susie, David, and Mary; Our thoughts and prayers are with you today. Reflecting back upon all that Ralph did for the community over the years; I rememeber the trail rides of course, the Centennial where he was so instrumental in the events, his many years in the community supporting the school sports. The community has lost a terrific individual and we are sorry for your loss.
