Elmer was a catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals in the minor league in the mid 1930's. In 1938 he married his childhood sweetheart Geraldine Mroch. They made their home in Chicago till moving to Downers Grove in 1952.

He was a stamp collector and a short wave radio buff. In the mid 1960's he took up scuba diving.

He retired from Western Electric/AT&T in 1974 after 37 years of service. He and Gerry moved to Plano shortly thereafter. While retired he enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Mission Texas. He was a skillful woodworker making tables, shelves, plate holders and several beautiful wall clocks for family and friends.
He was a member of the Golden Harvester Kitchen Band and was famous for his "whistling solos." He liked telling jokes and singing old time songs. After Gerry's death in 1987 he married his second wife Gladys Reeg in 1991.

He continued to enjoy daily bicycle rides--weather permitting--till he was in his mid eighties. Summers were spent at his cabin in Rhinelander, WI. fishing, swimming and boating. When he was no longer able to travel up north he took great pleasure in hearing stories about his great grandchildren having fun at the cabin and was delighted to know that the generations that followed him shared his passion for the Northwood's.

Visitor Comments
Tony and I met Elmer (and Geraldine) many years ago, after Kathy and I became penfriends in 1964, and we subsequently visited the United States in the early seventies, and then several times since. I think the last time we caught up with Elmer was around 2000. He was always lovely and the perfect gentleman but with a very sharp and witty sense of humour and one who was unfailingly polite to the fairer sex, particularly of the English variety! I am sure he will be sorely missed by Kathy and Dennis and the family and Tony and I pass on our fondest love and wishes at this time.

Elmer was amuch loved and respected member of the Golden Harvesters Kitchen Band until ill health took him to Tlllers. We still enjoyed having him sit in with the band every time we performed at Tillers. We will all miss him.
