Turner-Eighner Funeral Home - Somonauk - - Charles F. Blackburn, 74, of Springfield, formerly of Sandwich and Aurora, IL passed away, Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield. He was born August 10, 1935 in Dixon, IL, the son of John and Mary (Dunphy) Blackburn.
He married Betty W. Owens in February of 1971 in Aurora, IL. He lived in Aurora most of his life and in Sandwich for about 10 years. His final years were spent with his son, Charles, daughter-in-law, Michelle and his two wonderful grandsons, Peyton and Grant in Springfield, IL. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150 in Joliet for over 50 years. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield, IL.

He is survived by four children, Pete Stellatos, Lillian Rana (DeWayne) Downs of TX, Charlie (Michelle) Blackburn of Springfield, IL and Susan Rediger of Wyoming; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary of Barrington, IL; one brother, Pat Blackburn of IL and FL; several nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother, Steve.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 noon on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society in his name. Wish I had known about Charles death. I would have liked to attend his service. He was a good friend and a great classmate.

I was Charlie's neighbor in the 50's. I'm sorry to know of his passing. It sounds like he was a great family man. I lost my husband to cancer last Feb. I feel your pain.

I only met Mr Blackburn once a Springfield Sliders Game, he was a very happy man especially with his son, daughter-in-law and grandsons nearby. we are sorry for your loss
